How to Care for Brass Diyas & Idols
2 September 2026 · 3 min read

Brass naturally darkens over time, and that warm patina is part of its charm. If you prefer a bright shine, a gentle routine works best.
For regular cleaning, wipe the piece with a soft dry cloth. For deeper cleaning, make a paste of lemon juice and salt or tamarind and water, rub gently, rinse with lukewarm water and dry immediately.
Avoid abrasive scrubbers and strong chemical polishes on antique-finish pieces, as they can strip the detailing. Remove old oil and wax from diyas after every festival so residue does not build up.
Store brass in a dry place, and wrap pieces in soft cotton when not in use to slow down tarnishing.
